MGSA funds R25,000 bursary in under four days

Make Games South Africa, our local game development community and association, has surpassed its goal of raising R22,728 to fund two students to study game design this year via the Wits University game design programme.

MGSA set up a page on Thursday afternoon last week requesting urgent funding for two students – Thsetso Gift Radebe and Tumelo Thabane – so that they’re able to study game design at Wits this year. By midday on Sunday the goal amount had been raised with a few thousand rand to spare.

MGSA committee chairperson Nick Hall explained: “The community has been looking at the possibility of creating our own bursary to help get more enthusiastic students studying game design but this was our first opportunity to really show our support in this way.”

Long term, MGSA is looking to expand the programme to a full bursary and possibly a scholarship and internship programme.

You can still donate to the fund, with any extra money going towards setting up the full bursary programme.
