Remember Driveclub? You don’t? Well, that’s understandable. The PlayStation 4 exclusive racing game was supposed to be a launch title – it got delayed the day before the PlayStation 4 got released in the USA. Since then, there hasn’t been word on the game that’s being developed by Sony-owned Evolution Studios. Fortunately, IGN caught up with Sony’s Scott Rohde (who is one of the people who looks after Sony-owned studios) to get an update on the AWOL title.

In many ways he gave an answer-answerless, but Rohde has at least given some word on the status of Driveclub, and it appears as if Evolution Studios has had to go “back to the drawing board”.

That sounds like Evolution has had to make some fundamental adjustments to the game, which obviously means we’re still quite a way away from seeing this game. Rohde dodged that question of a release date and wouldn’t even confirm whether the game would be out before the end of 2014.

“We really don’t want to release a game before it’s ready,” Rohde told IGN. “And sometimes, this happens in the normal course of business, where we think we’re on track to deliver what we think is going to be a great game, and when we get closer, we realize that we’d be doing everyone a disservice if we shipped it before it was ready.”

“So, I think that at PlayStation, perhaps more than at other places, we’re willing to kinda eat that [cost] and go back to the drawing board and make sure the game is great before we ship it. And that’s what’s going on right now with that game,” he said referring to Driveclub.

Sorry, racing fans, but it looks like your PlayStation 4 exclusive racing game is still some way away, which is unusual considering it was originally pegged as a launch title. There must have been something very, very wrong with it for them to delay it at the last minute.
