Monolith Productions and publisher Warner Bros. Interactive have released a brand new video featuring the weapons and rune system you’ll have access to in Shadow of Mordor. Player character Talion wields a sword, a bow, and a dagger – yes, they all have suitably Tolkien-ish names as per tradition.
Having three weapons perhaps runs the risk of becoming a little repetitive as you slash your way through Sauron’s hordes, so Monolith has added a rune system to mix things up a bit. Runes will imbue your weapons with additional powers and effects, but we’re guessing you probably figured that out by now. They’ll be dropped as loot after fights, with the rarest, legendary runes only dropping after the harder boss encounters.
You’ll get to see a full explanation after the jump. You’ll also get to see how SUPER BRUTAL the combat is. We’ve already seen some of the game’s combat, but there’s more on display here. Yowzers.
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is out on PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on 7 October; presumably worldwide as that’s the only date provided so far.
