For those of you who still play Dark Souls on PC and have the Games For Windows Live version, you’re pretty much put in a lonely corner of the internet that will soon die. On Namco Bandai’s Tumblr page, the publisher announced that the game would stay on the GFWL service and would not be moved immediately to another service when Microsoft eventually shuts down those servers altogether in 2015. Starting on 1 July 2014, Microsoft will be selectively shutting down servers for games that no longer see much online action, keeping others like Dark Souls for the PC up a little longer.
“We’re currently seeking avenues to continue support and ensure the functionality of Dark Souls on other services. We expect there to be transitions as we build out new investments, but we remain committed to bringing first party gaming services and games to Windows for years to come,” the publisher said on their post.
