SA-made game Pixel Boy releases today

As announced earlier this week in a sudden flurry of information, locally developed game Pixel Boy and the Ever Expanding Dungeon is releasing today!

Hit the jump to see the game’s launch trailer and learn more details about its release.

Pixel Boy is a top-down shoot-’em-up with light RPG elements. It features randomly generated dungeons, as well as a sarcastic narrator to keep you on your pixel stumps. [After much deliberation in the office, we’ve decided that Ben means toes. Pixel stumps are toes. Is the whole thing ruined now that we’ve had to explain it? – Ed.] The combat features power-ups that the developers say can be stacked and combined into over 6,000 unique combinations.

The game has been in development for a couple of years and has gotten plenty of coverage and attention – even being covered by prolific YouTube personality TotalBiscuit. It’s proven so popular that the developers were approached by Nintendo representatives at rAge 2013, and the result is that Pixel Boy will be releasing on Wii U, but a release date is not yet confirmed.

You can buy Pixel Boy for PC, Mac and Linux at around 11pm this evening. Purchasing the game also enables you to receive future development features which include a Daily Dungeon Mode, additional power-ups and several more narrators.
