The League of Legends World Championship 2014 kicks off today with the group stage matches, and Riot Games have opened up its digital doors with a rocking animated trailer to the sound of alternative rock band Imagine Dragon’s new track, Warriors, made specially for the short. It’s full of lights, storms, drama and keyboard crushing (Sweetness Level: High). Sixteen teams will compete for the million dollar grand prize in South Korea live to a crowd of 45,000 fans in the sold-out Sangam Stadium.
Now, I’m not too familiar with the League of Legends pro scene (Being a Dota 2 acolyte) but I am into watching competitive eSports, so I appreciate Riot Games’ great work documenting the various individual players, teams and happenings leading up to the event. They’ve been posting a great mix of stories in their news section which caters for both pros and newcomers alike, and have emulated Valve’s documentary Free to Play by producing their own three-part series entitled Road to Worlds that can be watched for free here.
Readers interested in watching the matches and getting some more detailed info on the teams and schedule can visit the World Championship site here. Alternatively, stick on your headphones and meander past the Read More button for the trailer.
