Oldschool gaming mecca, GOG.com, is scheduled to reveal a new partnership between itself and Disney that will see a collection of LucasArts games arriving on the DRM-free store. If you head over to GOG.com you’ll see a count-down timer that is due to end today at 16:00 local South African time. GOG forum members somehow came across the full announcement, which resulted in GOG releasing the information regarding the Disney deal. Don’t go looking for it however; it’s been removed, and the countdown timer has been restarted.
Before GOG removed their early announcement, it was revealed that classic space sims Star Wars: X-Wing and its sequel Star Wars: TIE Fighter are heading to GOG. Each game will cost $9.99 but will include all the expansion packs that each game received.
This new partnership between GOG and Disney will see no less than 30 classic LucasArts games heading to the digital distribution platform. All games will continue the GOG tradition of being DRM-free. Other titles confirmed in the deal are: The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition, Sam & Max Hit the Road, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. We’ll link through to the full list once GOG makes the official announcement.
A number of classic LucasArts games are already available on Steam, but with the revelation that X-Wing and TIE Fighter are on their way, it looks like GOG is getting access to legacy titles that Steam never did. Here’s hoping we see Full Throttle and The Curse of Monkey Island.
UPDATE: the first set of games is live and available; so far there’s nothing further then the titles stated above, but GOG is promising “more to come” at a later stage.
