Telltale Games (the studio behind episodic smash-hit The Walking Dead) announced some time ago that they would be giving George R. R. Martin’s fantasy novels the episodic adventure game treatment. Game of Thrones – A Telltale Games Series is based off the HBO TV series, but it will be using House Forrester as its entry point.

House Forrester has not appeared in the HBO series, but the northern house (which holds allegiance to Winterfell and the Starks) is canon from Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novels. They first make an appearance in the book A Dance with Dragons. The events of Telltale’s episodic adventure game will take place between the end of season three and the start of season five of the HBO series. Season five is scheduled to begin broadcasting during our autumn 2015, and will be based off A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons.

In the game, you will take control of five members of House Forrester. Some of those will be actual family members, and some will be characters in service to the house. The game will take you to familiar locations including The Wall and King’s Landing. You’ll need to make decisions wisely (one of the main gameplay mechanics in Telltale’s episodic adventures) as your choices with one character will impact the remaining four. Those decisions and events will play out over six episodes.

A little background on House Forrester: their motto is “Iron from Ice”, which reflects their belief that their strength comes from their endurance of the harsh northern temperatures and environment. They’re based in Ironrath, a stronghold on the outer regions of the northern ironwood forests. The Forrester family controls the majority of the ironwood forests in Westeros, which puts them in a fairly strong position considering ironwood is used to make ships, weapons and buildings. They basically control the largest source of an incredibly valuable commodity.

We still haven’t seen the game in action, but our money is on a big reveal taking place during the recently announced Game Awards show, which is being produced by Geoff Keighley. The first episode of the six-part series will be heading to PC, Mac, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and iOS.
