It may not be the darling of the computer industry and it certainly has a legacy of strange decisions behind it, but Microsoft’s Windows 8.1 operating system has finally claimed more installs on hard drives worldwide than Windows XP. According to a recent StatCounter report, Windows XP sits at 10.69% global market share while Windows 8.1 recently climbed to 10.95%. Windows 8 sits under 5% and Vista clings on for dear life at less than 3%. Windows 7, by comparison, dominates everything at 50.34% market share. Apple’s iOS, surprisingly, is slowly climbing from 6.61% and OS X remains rather stable at 8.11%.
