Brace yourselves for this weekend, nerds, because there will likely be around 20 new game announcements. Holy cow, why so many? Well, for a start there’s Geoff Keighley’s brand new Game Awards show that is kicking off in Las Vegas tonight at 9PM eastern time. It will be streamed live via YouTube, Twitch, Xbox LIVE and the PlayStation Network. If you want to watch it live then set your alarm clock for 4AM tomorrow morning (Saturday, 06 December) and start mainlining that caffeine.
Keighley has teased that there will be between 16-18 new game announcements between the buckets of game awards dished out. The full list of nominees is available on The Game Awards website. Some standouts include Blizzard, Monolith, Nintendo, Ubisoft Montreal, and Telltale as potential developers of the year; Bayonetta 2, Dark Souls II, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Hearthstone and Shadow of Mordor are all vying for Game of the Year.
A number of big developers and publishers are going to be at The Game Awards, including Naughty Dog so hopefully we’ll see some of Uncharted 4. Those hoping to see a Fallout 4 announcement might be disappointed, as Polygon reports that Bethesda will only be there to support Wolfenstein: The New Order and will not be announcing new projects. Then, in addition to The Game Awards tonight/tomorrow, Sony is hosting a PlayStation Experience weekend in Las Vegas as well. The Sony-themed weekend starts on Saturday morning with an hour-and-a-half keynote address at 10AM eastern time, which is 5PM for us here in South Africa. That keynote, and the myriad panel discussions and presentations, will be streamed via Sony’s Twitch channel.
Some standouts for the PlayStation Experience weekend include: a No Man’s Sky gameplay and discussion panel at 10PM local SA time for us. Furthermore, Sony’s blog is telling people not to miss that opening keynote; expect many new game announcements during that time.
