Throw out your GPU. THIS is how you really play Quake.


We kid, of course. But after a slew of videos of DOOM being played on ATMs and printers, a new dorky challenge has appeared in the form of the original Quake being played on an oscilloscope. It sort of hearkens back to the Tennis for Two “game” that was played on similar equipment after the second world war.

The creator, Pekka Väänänen, details the hack in excruciating detail in his blog. Be warned, though, as it gets extremely technical and assumes a cursory knowledge of the fundamentals behind oscilloscope technology. If that’s not your thing, you can just drool at the video after the jump.
