News has just hit that Harmonix is indeed reviving the Rock Band series. Rock Band 4 will hit PlayStation 4 and Xbox One later in 2015. Details are a little scarce right now, but Harmonix has confirmed that old instrument peripherals will work in the new game. They have also confirmed that Mad Catz will be making new peripherals for Rock Band 4 anyway. What’s more, you will be able to import your entire music library from previous Rock Band titles on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
The game’s project manager Daniel Sussman had this to say, “It was important for us to be able to sink our teeth into to something that was deserving of the 4 at the end of the title. We didn’t just want to rehash Rock Band 3 for new consoles. We felt it was really important for us to evolve the gameplay in a way that would be interesting.”
This news comes just weeks after it was widely speculated that Harmonix was cooking something up. It has also been rumoured that the Guitar Hero franchise will be making a return as well, but that is yet to be confirmed. Hit the jump for a developer diary.
