GTA V hits the PC on 14 April. Aside from 4K resolutions and 60 frames per second slickness, it’s the same game that came out on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Except for the fact that it also has a complete video editing suite built into it, complete with options to publish direct to YouTube. Do you hear that? That’s the sound of the creative collective on the Internet all OMGing at once.
The creative applications of this are pretty much endless. Along with a full on video editor complete with lens effects, filters, camera angles and everything else a budding machinima director could want, Rockstar has included a “Director Mode” that will allow you to completely manipulate props, characters, NPCs, animals… the works. It’s kind of like Garry’s Mod but with GTA V.
Speaking to PC Gamer, Rockstar Toronto lead game designer John Macpherson had this to say: “…players now have the option to start and stop their captures at will. We have also added a brand new feature known as ‘Director Mode’. This gives users the ability to play and record using any actor from GTA V such as story and heist crew characters, members of the ambient population and even animals.”
Naturally, you’ll also be able to manipulate character lip syncing to make them talk. The weather and time of day will also be adjustable so that you can perfect your GTA V movie. The entire game soundtrack will be there for you to use as well, including the radio stations, radio adverts, and the original orchestral pieces written for GTA V.
Get ready for an explosion of YouTube videos created inside GTA V. I can’t wait to see what people come up with.
