Disney Infinity 3.0 confirmed; brings original, prequel, and upcoming Star Wars sets

This comes as no surprise, what with Chinese and German online retailers mistakenly listing the game for pre-order, but Disney has revealed Disney Infinity 3.0. The latest version of Disney’s toys-to-life series will introduce the Star Wars universe to the gaming IP.

Officially called Disney Infinity 3.0: Play Without Limits, the new entry brings three Star Wars themed sets. The starter pack will come with the Star Wars: Twilight of the Republic Play Set, which sees the prequel trilogy versions of Obi-Wan, Yoda, Anakin Skywalker, and Darth Maul as playable characters. Ahsoka Tano from the Star Wars: The Clone Wars cartoon series will also be playable. The starter pack will include Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano figurines.

Then, an original trilogy Star Wars Play Set will also be available separately. This Rise Against the Empire Play Set will bring Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Chewbacca, and Darth Vader as playable characters. The Millennium Falcon and X-Wings will be flyable as well.

Finally, a Play Set based on upcoming film Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens will be made available at the end of the year. All of the characters from the different trilogies will be usable across all Star Wars Play Sets. There will be locations and gameplay elements unique to each of the Play Sets.

However, it’s not only Star Wars content that’s joining Disney Infinity 3.0: new Avengers figurines based on the most recent film will also be added, including the Hulkbuster Iron Man and Ultron. Characters from the upcoming Disney Pixar movie Inside Out will also be available, as will classic Disney characters like Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Sam Flynn and Quorra from Tron: Legacy, Mulan and Frozen’s Olaf.

Disney Infinity 3.0 will come with a new Base, but all characters from previous versions of the series will be compatible. The game is heading to PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, Xbox 360 and Xbox One during out spring time here in South Africa.
