After months of silence, the Hellraid official blog has delivered news that the long-awaited dark-fantasy game might not see the light of day any time soon. A post from its developers, Techland (who previously created Dead Island and Dying Light), indicates that they’ve halted work on the game, hopefully temporarily. Hit the jump for quotes and disappointments!
Techland had this to say:
“We would like to officially announce that our dark fantasy FPP game Hellraid will not be released this year as previously planned, and the development of the game has been put on hold. In the recent months we conducted an internal analysis and came to the conclusion that Hellraid, in its current shape and form, is not meeting our own expectations for this project. Therefore, we decided the best course of action would be to send it back to the drawing board and invent our dark fantasy title anew.”
First announced in the dark ages of 2013, Hellraid is a first-person action-RPG that pits players against the forces of hell. Its development cycle up until now could be described as… let’s say troubled, because this isn’t the first time I’ve reported bad news about it.
Techland went on to say that the workforce from Hellraid would be refocused on Dying Light, so fans of that title will be pleased that it’s getting more attention. The rest of us will just have to satisfy our medieval urges by LARPing at the local school field.
