After years of silence, hype, rumours and speculation, Fallout 4 has finally been officially announced via YouTube. The three minute trailer showed off a new setting, canine companion, and graphics style. Hit the jump for more, more never changes…
From what we can see in the trailer, Fallout 4 will be set in Boston, and our voiced protagonist (a series first) will be joined in his quests by an Alsatian. Several shots are shown of the door to Vault 111, as well as an armoured Vault Jumpsuit the protagonist wears, so it’s clear which shelter we’ll be emerging from. The trailer also cuts back and forth between idyllic pre-War and post-apocolyptic locations, which opens the door for a lot of speculation.
Fallout 4 is sporting a new colour-scheme, adding a highly saturated and neon-rich hue to the Wasteland. The graphics show off an impressive level of detail, although the animations of characters and the dog will seem very familiar to Fallout 3 and Skyrim fans.
Besides the new setting and visual style, Fallout 4 also seems to have an interesting amount of steampunk going on, particularly in the form of two massive airships visible in the trailer. There’s also a new design for the bumbling Protectrons, some kind of mutated crustacean enemy, and the Raider enemies look a little reminiscent of Rage.
Bethesda is promising more information, as well as the world premier, at their June 14th E3 presentation (at 7pm PST to those who will watch from home), so we’ll have to wait until then to learn more about the story, world, and release date. For now, it’s confirmed that Fallout 4 will be on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
