E3 2015: Shenmue III is already funded

Shenmue kickstarter success

After 14 years of waiting, Shenmue III has finally been announced to great excitement at PlayStation’s E3 conference. Now all that remains to be seen is if the game will reach its Kickstarter funding goals.

What’s that? It’s already fully funded? Dang, that was quick. Hit the jump for more.

In less than nine hours, Shenmue III’s Kickstarter campaign has been fully funded, and the donations just keep on coming. At time of writing it’s sitting on $2.1 million dollars, with over 25,000 backers. This project has been funded so quickly that there hasn’t been time to update the milestones on the campaign page.

According to some statistics on a NeoGAF thread, Shenmue 3 reached $1 million in 90 minutes. The previous record holder for quickest million earned was Yooka-Laylee, clocking in at 6 hours. Given the success of this, Yooka-Laylee, and Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, it’s clear that more and more gamers are talking with their wallet about the games they want. Shenmue III is planned for PC, and PS4. A release date will most likely be revealed soon.
