I promised myself I’d avoid collecting yet another endless parade of toys. But then Disney went ahead and added Star Wars to Disney Infinity 3.0. I can’t NOT buy that… damn it, man.
Disney Interactive has revealed that Disney Infinity 3.0 will be released in South Africa on 28 August 2015. Of course, as with all games in the toys-to-life genre, there’ll be starter pack options as well as add-on toys and expansions released all at the same time.
Additionally, Disney has revealed two new game modes that will be made available via paid for expansion Toy Box Pieces. Toy Box Takeover and Toy Box Speedway will add pre-built game modes to the Toy Box. This will allow players to play through hours of new content that will be accessible to all Disney Infinity characters in one’s collection. We guess you could think of it as Play Sets for the Toy Box mode.
In Toy Box Takeover, The Incredible’s Syndrome has obtained Merlin’s magic wand and threatens the future of the Toy Box. You’ll need to use a Disney character in your collection to battle across a range of locations from iconic Disney movies, in order to defeat Syndrome and his minions.
Toy Box Speedway, however, adds a kart racing game to Disney Infinity 3.0’s Toy Box. There’ll be nine race tracks from a variety of Disney films including a Sugar Rush track (from Wreck-It Ralph), a Tatooine track (from Star Wars), a San Fransokyo track (from Big Hero 6) and more.
The starter pack for Disney Infinity 3.0 comes with a new Infinity Base, Ahsoka Tano and Anakin Skywalker figurines, a Twilight of the Republic Play Set piece, and a copy of the game. That is available to pre-order from online retailers at around the R750 mark on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Last-gen consoles are slightly cheaper. Interestingly, if you hold off until early October, you can pick up a Starter Pack that comes with the second Star Wars themed Play Set (Rise Against the Empire) that comes with Luke and Leia figurines. That double bundle Starter Pack comes with the Boba Fett figurine as a bonus; Fett will only be sold separately from 2016 onwards.
Additionally, figurines for Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi will be available at launch. Star Wars Rebels characters Kanan Jarrus, Sabine Wren, and Zeb Orrelios will also be available. Joining them are figurines from Disney’s current film, Inside Out – you’ll be able to pick up Sadness, Disgust and Fear on their own. A separate Inside Out Play Set (with figurines of Joy and Anger) will also be available. Finally, figurines for Mickey, Minnie, Mulan, Sam Flynn and Quorra will also be available on launch day.
All characters and Power Discs from Disney Infinity and Disney Infinity 2.0 will be compatible with Disney Infinity 3.0.
That’s a lot of new plastic toys vying for space on your shelf. I wish you and your bank accounts luck in dealing with this; I know I’m going to need it.
