Rise of the Tomb Raider has console exclusivity for a year, but PC gets it sooner than PS4

It’s only taken, what, almost a year to get some actual clarification on this? Rise of the Tomb Raider was announced at the Microsoft press conference in 2014. Later that same year, during Gamescom, it was revealed that Microsoft had bought Xbox exclusivity for the game; news that angered many. At the time it was believed that the exclusivity was a timed one, and many Microsoft and Square Enix representatives dodged questions regarding that.

Publisher Square Enix has now confirmed what everyone already knew: Rise of the Tomb Raider is a timed exclusive for Xbox 360 and Xbox One. It’ll be exclusive to those consoles for a year after it releases on 10 November 2015. PlayStation 4 will have to wait until the end of 2016; PlayStation 3 will have to wait forever because it doesn’t look like it’s coming to Sony’s last-gen hardware.

A year is a long wait for Sony’s hardware, but the PC will have only a few months to wait. Rise of the Tomb Raider will hit the PC in “early 2016”.
