Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will come with entire Gears library for free

Here’s some awesome news for you Xbox One and Gears of War junkies: Microsoft has announced that those picking up the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will also be getting every single previous Gears of War game for free.

Gears of War, Gears of War 2, Gears of War 3, and Gears of War: Judgement will all be made available via Xbox One’s upcoming Backwards Compatibility feature. Those of you playing Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will need to play the game between its launch (25 August) and 31 December 2015. Provided you play the remake during that time period, you’ll get the previous games added to your library for free.

Of course, those who choose not to pick up Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, and who own previous Gears of War titles on Xbox 360, will still be able to play the games on Xbox One via Backwards Compatibility anyway. Therefore this news that Ultimate Edition will grant free access to the previous games is really great news for those who missed all the previous Gears titles; or those of you who perhaps missed one or two of them when they first launched. Time to catch up! Or just, you know, replay them because they’re awesome.
