You’ve got to love fan dedication. Many classic games have been lovingly revamped by the modding community, though their efforts are often strictly unofficial and largely unnoticed by game companies. Fortunately there are a few exceptions to this rule, the latest of which is a mod for the original Deus Ex called Deus Ex: Revision.
Revision has been in incubation for several years as an assortment of different mods which have since been combined. Overseen by a group calling themselves Caustic Creative, the combined effort caught the attention and won the support of Deus Ex‘s developers and as such is available, for free and in an updated form, on Steam. If Deus Ex is already in your account, you may download and install the mod by navigating hereabouts. Obviously it can’t compare to the visuals of modern AAA titles, but for a 15 year-old game, it’s a marked improvement. The overhaul also goes beyond mere eye candy, as there’s a new soundtrack and new environments to explore as well.
If you’ve never played a Deus Ex game, it’s probably time you remedied that ailment, particularly since Steam has the entire series on sale until the 16th of October. You can pick up the original for a measly $1.39 or look into the Deus Ex Collection, which retails for $32.99 and includes the Game of the Year version of the first title and the Director’s Cut of Human Revolution, as well as Invisible War and The Fall. In addition, the much-anticipated Mankind Divided is set for release on the 23rd of February next year, so be prepared for Deus Ex overload.
