For better or worse, “found footage” has become a staple of horror movies since The Blair Witch Project, and it’s showing no signs of slowing down. The question is: how would such a concept translate into a video game? Well, we’ll have the answer soon enough: November the 20th, to be exact. That’s when The Tape by Kazakov Oleg will be released.
You may recognise this developer’s name from another game, Putrefaction, which was released on Steam earlier this year. While that title was a fast-paced frag-fest, The Tape aims to be much slower, introspective and creepier. It’ll place players in the role of a detective who discovers a mysterious old VHS tape (yes, those are still a thing, apparently). The tape in question may hold clues as to the whereabouts of a missing girl, but suffice to say there is some pretty disturbing stuff featured on it, including possible cult activity.
A reveal trailer has recently been released, and I can honestly say it’s one the most unsettling things I’ve watched in a very long time. Check it out below and see if you agree. Keep up with it on its official Steam page here.
