Google and Disney partner to bring Star Wars: The Force Awakens to Google EVERYTHING
There’s this little movie coming out on 16 December called Star Wars: The Force Awakens. If you’re a fan of Star Wars, then it’s a great time to be alive. If you’re not a fan of Star Wars, then all this hype must be driving you a little crazy. We’re sorry about that. (We’re not really sorry about that.)
Google is everywhere. Currently Star Wars is everywhere. So it makes a lot of sense that Star Wars and Google should partner so as to become everywhere-to-the-power-of-two. Or just everywhere squared, I guess.
Odds are you use some of Google’s services. You might even have an Android phone, or regularly utilise Gmail to correspond with people you’d rather not talk to or deal with IRL. If you head over to this link and log in to your Google Account, you’ll be prompted to pick a side: the Light Side, or the Dark Side. You should pick the Dark Side because good is dumb.
Doing so will automagically transform nearly every single Google application you use into a Star Wars festooned masterpiece. There are even lightsaber progress bars and little TIE-Fighters to replace your dull old car in Waze. That yellow stickman for the Street View option on Google Maps? Yeah, he will get turned into a Star Wars character too.
Imagine what your drain would look like after Chewbacca takes a shower in your house? It’s pretty much that, only the drain is your Google Account, and the Wookiee hair is Star Wars. That stuff gets everywhere.
Oh, and if Google Cardboard is your kind of thing, then there’s an upcoming VR experience put together by Industrial Light & Magic, and Skywalker Sound. It’s described as a “serialized Google Cardboard Virtual Reality (VR) experience” that will link to the opening of the new movie in December.
