First wave of PS2 games hits PSN

Over the past weekend, the first batch of much-hyped PlayStation 2 classics were launched on the PlayStation Store. Even though it’s sporting a few relatively obscure items, it’s a launch line-up that’s comprised of some pretty popular titles. Read on to see what’s available, and what’s coming soon.

Currently, eight titles are available for purchase. They are: GTA III, GTA: Vice City, GTA: San Andreas, Twisted Metal: Black, Dark Cloud, The Mark of Kri, War of the Monsters and Rogue Galaxy. Prices range from R149 to R218, which seems a fair price. Each title has improved visuals and Trophy support, and the PS4’s hardware will make creating Let’s Plays of each game a breeze. I recommend Rogue Galaxy. It’s like a steampunk Star Wars that plays like Kingdom Hearts.

A video and blog post by PlayStation’s Shuhei Yoshida confirms a few more PS2 games that are coming soon: PaRappa the Rapper 2, The King of Fighters 2000 and Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits. Hopefully we’ll see more PS2 games added soon, because I’m hoping for Zone of the Enders, Wild Arms, Armored Core and the Silent Hill games. Check out the video below if you want to see the games in action.
