Ever wanted to watch someone beat Fallout 3 in less than 15 minutes?

Well now you can! Speedrunner Rydou has broken the world record for the fastest completion of Fallout 3‘s main storyline, coming in at 14:54.71 and beating the previous record of exactly 15 minutes. Is that fast? That seems fast, doesn’t it?

The video’s somewhere after the break. Naturally, if you’ve never completed Fallout 3 but it’s on your list of things to do before the apocalypse arrives, beware of potential spoilers.

Since there are no rules in place for this particular speedrun other than “get to the end of the game as quickly as possible by any means necessary”, Rydou makes use of various glitches (like quicksaving and reloading, which when done correctly allows you to clip through solid objects) to achieve the impressive result. There’s also a bit where Rydou intentionally cripples himself to confuse the game into awarding him a 60% speed boost. Glamorous!

Here, have a look:

Pretty crazy ‘ey? As remarkable as it is, Rydou is determined to better this record time by polishing up his run through certain areas of the game.

I feel compelled to mention that Rydou’s run is in stark contrast to my time with Fallout 3, wherein I spent maybe 100 hours flicking Radscorpions on the nose, chatting to super mutants about the exorbitant cost of living in the Capital Wasteland, and drinking excessively. So pretty much your average Thursday morning. I don’t think I ever got around to completing the main quest along the way. Weird that.

If this has gotten you in the mood to watch more speedrunning, Games Done Quick is happening right now.
