Having a slow day at the office? Feeling anxious about the start of the new school year? Perhaps Planets is exactly what you need to keep your brain occupied, or to momentarily take your mind off the fact that it’s Monday, and Mondays are the devil.
Playable right in your browser, Planets is the work of Oskar Stålberg, who’s made a number of awesome procedurally-driven game-toys to show off his excellent art. You’re handed a planet, and you’re able to cover its surface in forests and icy zones and little walled cities. As you go, you’ll notice that nifty little touches like bridges and snow-covered rooftops appear depending on what you place and where. Zoom all the way out to see the sexy galaxy in the background and you’ll see that there’s even a day/night cycle in there.
It’s very cool and quite relaxing. Head over here to have a go at it. If you’d like to check out some of Stålberg’s other, similar works, Brick Blocks is a building generator, and this is a more visually simplistic city generator. Once upon a time he had a very pretty island generator, but it’s a bit broken because it uses the decommissioned Unity web player.
