Gosh, make up your mind, Square Enix. When the next Hitman game was revealed via a letter to fans two years ago, the announcement was followed up with another one saying that the game would be episodic in nature. A while later, Square Enix changed its mind and said the game would be a full, $60 release. Now, they’ve changed their minds again, but hopefully for the last time.

On 11 March you’ll be able to pick up the first chapter (or “location” as they’re referring to the episodes) that will contain a Prologue mission and the Paris game area. That’ll set you back $15. In April they’ll add Italy, and then May they’ll add Morocco.

In a statement from the head of Io Interactive, Hannes Seifert, the developer said explained:

“We decided to take the full leap and publish Hitman as a truly episodic game experience. Part of that decision is for that little bit of extra time to ensure every location we release is at the quality level fitting for a Hitman game. But the main driving reason is that this will allow us to create a living game that will expand and evolve over time and establish a foundation for the future — this is the first game in a storyline which will continue and expand with future Hitman games.”

So, it would seem Io has big plans for the franchise. Let’s see how it takes to an episodic format.
