On the 4th of January, the PlayStation Network died. Though there’s been nothing official from Sony, it’s believed that this outage was thanks to your garden-variety DDOS attack; nothing special. It was only special because it happened to ruin a couple of million people’s gaming day, but luckily the down time didn’t last long.
Sony has now begun sending out emails to all those affected during this trying time. That email (you can see our own Fick Senior’s email above) contains a code that’s good for one free day of PlayStation Plus subscription. Call me crazy, but I’m willing to bet that the vast majority of PSN users would trade that “free” day for a more stable PSN; one that doesn’t fall over the moment a DDOS so much as even looks in its direction.
The 4th of January 2016 was truly a dark time for all those unable to cope without some online gaming. Our condolences go out to those Destiny players who took the downtime particularly hard.
