It’s one of the most clichéd genres in modern gaming, but multiplayer modern military FPSes are still a big deal, and one of the better examples is mod-turned-standalone title Insurgency. Starting out as a Half-Life 2 mod, Insurgency is a blast to play with a friendly and vibrant community. Some even say it’s superior to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, but that’s a topic for another time. I’m here now to tell you about the game’s latest large-scale mod project, Day of Infamy.
As you can probably tell by the title, it takes Insurgency out of its modern-day setting and transplants it into World War II. Spearheaded by the original developers New World Interactive, they’ve kindly opened up development and are allowing the community to shape it as they see fit. Other similarly-themed mods and maps have already merged with the project.
The mod gives off a strong Day of Defeat vibe mixed with just a tad of Red Orchestra, and offers a surprising amount of content. If you’ve purchased Insurgency, all you need to do is navigate to its Steam Workshop page and hit “subscribe”.
Remember to keep in mind that the project is still in beta and may contain bugs, glitches and other assorted annoyances. Play at your own risk, but remember to have fun all the same.
