Warren Spector is returning to game development! Isn’t that exciting? The only way this isn’t exciting is if you’re not a fan of his previous games, like System Shock, Deus Ex, Ultima Underworld, or Thief. Spector announced recently across various sources that he is returning to game development, and he will be working with OtherSide Entertainment, the team developing System Shock 3 and Ultima Ascendant.
The news broke in an article by gamesindustry.biz, where Spector states that he will be leaving his teaching posistion at the University of Texas, and he states how excited he is about this move: “Working on System Shock was one of the most fulfilling things I’ve done in my career and it’s hard to describe how much I’m looking forward to sharing with players what SHODAN has been up to since the last game was released.”
Spector then took to Facebook to further drum up the hype: ” Word’s out – I’m joining Paul Neurath’s Otherside Entertainment to make System Shock 3. I’m going to work part-time on my own until the end of the school year but come June I’ll be building a studio in Austin. Start updating those resumes, System Shock fans!”
Ready for another quote? OtherSide founder Paul Neurath said in a post on their blog, “I can think of no one better suited to take on this creative challenge. Warren has changed the industry before and will do so again.”
