SUPERHOT is an indie game that started life as a “7 Day Shooter” game jam project. It proved wildly popular when it was uploaded to the Internet once the game jam was done. It was so popular that the tiny indie team decided to run a Kickstarter to fund further development of the game. That Kickstarter was fully funded in 23 hours. Yowzers!
SUPERHOT is a highly stylised first-person shooter with one really neat trick: time only moves when you move. We’ve featured articles onSUPERHOT before, but the game deserves to have broken the Internet by now considering how clever it is. So this is us contributing towards its eventual destruction of the Internet. I mean who needs the Internet anyway, right?
You can grab a copy of the game on Steam right this moment. It costs a whole R242.10, which is a bargain for a game that does ACTUAL new things with the first-person shooter genre. When was the last time you played an FPS and thought, “oh man, this is so clever. Why hasn’t anyone done this before?” Probably not since Half-Life 2‘s gravity gun, or Portal.
You can check out the game’s launch trailer below.
According to the game’s press release that found its way into my inbox this morning, there’s more than just a couple of story missions to play through. When you pick up the game, you’ll also get:
Endless Mode – How long can you last against unyielding waves of enemies?
Challenge Mode – Take on SUPERHOT with your bare hands, no restarts, timed runs, and more.
Replay Editor – Edit and upload your best runs for all to see on Killstagram.com.
Extras – Delve further into SUPERHOT with mini-games, ASCII art, and [redacted].
No idea what the “redacted” bit is in the last bullet point, but I’m officially intrigued. Which also means I am absolutely picking up a copy of this when I get home.
