Check out Salt and Sanctuary, a cooperative Dark Souls-y side-scroller

Ska Studios is behind hit Xbox LIVE Arcade games like The Dishwasher and Charlie Murder. The Ska duo of Michelle and James Silva are currently hard at work on a new game called Salt and Sanctuary, and it’s heavily inspired by Dark Souls and its kin. Think of it as a 2D adaptation of FromSoftware’s games, and you’ll have a good idea what to expect from it.

They’ve released a new trailer showing off how the cooperative play functions, and it also dabbles in the PvP system a bit. Let’s watch.

That’s Souls-y alright, what with the grim aesthetic, the measured, thoughtful combat and the constant risk of embarrassing, but educational death. That lightning is pretty great too. It looks like good fun, a fact that’s probably helped along by the infectious enthusiasm in the voices of Michelle and James. Either way, I’m excited to give it a go myself.

Salt and Sanctuary‘s due to launch before the end of March, and we’re told there’s a short period of PS4 exclusivity that must pass before it’ll hit PCs further down the line. Be sure to check out this post on the PlayStation blog if you’re eager to learn more about the game and its multiplayer component.
