I miss the original Quake. It may lack the legendary status of Doom, but it had such a fantastically-realised dark, Gothic setting. None of its sequels truly returned to that, and no other game has quite matched its style. The best we can hope for is a spiritual sequel, and it seems like indie effort Inner Chains may be up to the task.
It looks set to be a fairly straightforward shooter set in a nightmarish world that invokes a disturbing hybrid of H.P. Lovecraft and Guillermo del Toro. We’re talking dank swamps, twisted underground cathedrals, monstrous monks and assorted biomechanical abominations. Love it, love it, love it.
The game has been greenlit on Steam and is scheduled for release later this year. There’s also a Kickstarter page asking for $10,000, which has already been met. Keep up with proceedings at its official page and check out the trailer below.
