Doomguy fistbump

Doom launched last month, and judging by the influx of hospital patients with melted faces, it’s been well received. Dane loved it in his review, and it featured in our Summer Sale Must Have list.

Bethesda have announced what’s coming to the game in its first update. There are some fixes and tweaks, but it also includes a couple of noteworthy new features.

The first is Photo Mode. More and more games in this generation are making provisions for digital photography, and titles like Uncharted 4 and Firewatch practically beg for some scenery shots. For Doom, maybe you want a gibs-ridden image of an Imp being turned into a meat salad. It could revitalise the postcard industry.

The coolest new feature is the ability to centre weapons, making them appear directly in the middle of the screen. This is a neat throwback to how classic first-person shooters placed their weapons. Who knows, maybe this will help modern gamers overcome Doom‘s lack of down-sight aiming.

These features and more will be included in the update, which hits PC, PS4 and XBO on June 30th.
