First new Overwatch map is called Eichenwalde, includes a castle

Just like pretty much everyone in the entire gaming world right now, most of the folks here at ye olde NAG are obsessed with Overwatch. In fact, I’m pretty sure Tarryn is one warning away from a restraining order.
It may be one of the best shooters ever made, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t get a little stale around the 500-hour mark. Enter a brand-new map called Eichenwalde. It’s got a distinctly medieval motif, complete with castles, a quaint little village, and the remains of some dude named Balderich von Alder.
The new map was shown at Gamescom in Germany yesterday, which oh-so-coincidentally is also where Eichenwalde is set. Germany, not Gamescom (although that would be amazing). Stuttgart, Germany to be precise. This trailer gives a look at all of the map’s nooks and crannies:
The story behind the map is one of bravery, underdogs and robots. The description reads:
“The site of one of the most famous battles during the Omnic Crisis, it was here that the leader of the Crusaders, Balderich von Alder, and a handful of his best soldiers made a last stand against an advancing automaton army. Outnumbered and outgunned, they were ultimately slain during the resulting combat. However, thanks to their valiant efforts, the German military was able to push back the omnic offensive and win the fight.”
Players on one team will need to lead a payload (a battering ram in this case) all the way to Eichenwalde Castle in hopes of reclaiming what’s left of old Balderich, whereas the other team will have to stop them before they bust in.
There’s no word from Blizzard detailing when we’ll be able to pick up the new map.
