The Witness is coming to Xbox One

Already a critically-acclaimed megahit on PC and PS4, Jonathan Blow’s brainbox-’em-up The Witness is now also coming to Xbox One next month. Obviously inspired by Cyan’s cult-classic PC head-scratcher Myst, the game involves wandering around an island, solving a series of maze-based puzzles.

“The Witness is a pretty unconventional game. You wander through an open world, so you can explore whatever catches your eye. Throughout the island you’ll find many puzzles, all with different themes,” he explained on Xbox Wire. “But these puzzles aren’t just arbitrary and meaningless; they communicate ideas. As you play the game, you’ll find yourself absorbing a nonverbal language, and you’ll know what to do even if you can’t quite explain what you know.”

Blow also recommended working through the game without spoilers or the assistance of guides, because that’s lame-o.

“If you get stuck, or something seems difficult, you can turn around and go somewhere else, and come back to the hard problem later,” he said. “Elsewhere on the island you might find clues to the thing you’re stuck on, and you may have a very enjoyable experience when you make the right connections.”

It’s out on 13 September.

Winds of Winter should be out by July 2020.
