Sleeping Dogs is probably one of the most fun and memorable open-world games I’ve ever played. In fact, I’m pretty sure I enjoyed it as much as (if not more than) Grand Theft Auto V.
Which is why this next bit of news is seriously sad. According to a host of rumours currently making the rounds, the game’s development studio United Front Games is shutting down for good. Unfortunately, these rumours have been all but confirmed. Details after the jump.
While the studio has released a few other notable games like ModNation Racers and LittleBigPlanet Karting, they’re best known (and loved) for the terrific Sleeping Dogs. Their latest title, Smash+Grab entered Steam Early Access just a few weeks ago and has received mostly positive reviews.
Rumours of the studio’s demise first popped up on NeoGAF, where a moderator started a thread called “RIP United Front Games.” Helping to validate said rumours, Smash+Grab is no longer available to download on Steam. Oh, and in case you were still holding out hope, United Front Games producer, Jen Timms essentially confirmed everything in a single tweet.
Currently mourning the best job I’ve ever had, and the most wonderful team I’ve ever worked with.
The end of a great era.

What all this means for Smash+Grab, and the future of the Sleeping Dogs IP we don’t know. But hey, since the Sleeping Dogs franchise is owned by Square Enix, we may yet be treated to a sequel, just not one developed by United Front Games.
