Will Ferrell is a comedic genius, and I’ll have a poo-flinging argument super serious debate with anyone who claims otherwise. He’s also kind of old. Which is why this next bit of news is… a little surprising.
As announced by Legendary Pictures yesterday (and in the heading at the top there), Will Ferrell has signed on to play an eSports player in an upcoming comedy revolving around, well, eSports. Details are pretty scant right now, but here’s the gist of it.
As Variety reports, the aforementioned funnyman will portray “an anomaly in a sport where players usually retire in their 20s due to slowing hand-eye coordination.” The post goes on to mention that the unnamed film will be penned by Michael Kvamme and Jordan Dunn (SpongeBob SquarePants 3) and that eSports powerhouse teams Evil Geniuses and Fnatic “are in discussions to have a presence in the film.”
Other than that, we don’t really know much else about the film. I mean, we don’t even know which game the movie will revolve around (though it’ll probably be League of Legends or Dota 2). But what I do know is that if it’s anything like Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, we’re in for something really special.
