Pokémon Go is starting to add gen 2 ‘mons, festive Pikachu now a thing

Are you still playing Pokémon Go? I am. Well, I don’t play it nearly as much as I used to, and mostly I just log in to complete my daily quests. But it looks like the game is due for another round of serious hype as gen two Pokémon start making their way into the game.

Yesterday developer Niantic announced that select gen two Pokémon like Togepi and Pichu have been added to Pokémon Go, as well the limited edition Pikachu pictured above. It’s adorable, right? It is. Details below.

The announcement was made over on the game’s official page and was accompanied by this little teaser.

According to Niantic, along with Togepi and Pichu, “several other Pokémon” from gen two have also been added. Unlike most of the ‘mons in the game, these new Pokémon can only be acquired by hatching eggs, which makes sense since all the confirmed new Pokémon are little babies.

The developer also added that this is just the start of the gen two rollout, stating that “these are the first of more Pokémon coming to Pokémon Go over the next few months.”

Niantic also announced that during the time between now and 29 December, players will “find limited edition Pikachu all over the world,” and that “these Pikachu will be wearing a festive hat to celebrate the season!”

Pokémon Go is becoming more and more like the game we were all hoping for, and I couldn’t be happier about it.
