The Xbox One is getting a new dashboard that looks almost exactly like the old one

Microsoft is working on a New! Improved! Now with 100% more this and that! dashboard update for Xbox One that apparently boosts navigation speed and improves task management with an “enhanced” overlay, adding a new Guide tab to the popup sidebar menu that features a number of shortcuts and a recent items queue, and also includes its own built-in streaming platform Beam.

Xbox director of program management Mike Ybarra showed off the new sidebar menu in a video, but only for, like, a second. Maybe that’s the point. It’s definitely much faster than the old version.

The tab includes shortcuts to the Xbox Store, content library, and Home, plus the stuff you’ve been messing with lately and what looks like your Pins list, and screenshot and recording options.

“Through one press of the Xbox button on your controller, you’ll be able to pull up the newly enhanced Guide as an overlay on the left side of your screen no matter what you’re doing. In addition, we’re rebuilding the most popular multitasking experiences for speed and ease of access,” Ybarra explained in a blog post last week. “For example, you’ll be able to start recording your GameDVR clips, adjust your recording length, and access your captures directly in the Guide. We’ll also add a new Achievement tracking overlay, Gamerscore Leaderboard, a new Cortana design, and controls for background music, making these features easier to use.”

No launch date has been confirmed, but it’s rolling out to Xbox Preview Program and Windows 10 Insider users “soon”.
