Rocket League toys are a thing

Ashamed as I am to admit it, I haven’t played Rocket League. The game has been sitting, installed, on my PS4 for months now, begging for attention, but I still haven’t taken the time to try it. Just sit tight little buddy, your time will come…

Anyway, Rocket League is a competitive car-sport game, essentially a mix of soccer and front-flipping automobiles. It’s incredibly popular, loved by many, and it’s a shame there aren’t adorable pull-back toy cars based on it. Until now!

According to a post on Rocket League’s official website, developer Psyonix has partnered with Zag Toys to produce a line of 12 Original Minis Pull-Back Racers. Each vehicle will come with its own Rocket Ball, and some will have a code to redeem Rocket League content. Of the 12, eight will be cars featured in the game, and four will be “limited variants”. According to the announcement, all the cars will be sold blindly, so you won’t know what you’re getting until you crack the ball open.

At first it was disappointing that these weren’t Hot Wheels cars. Then I realised that you and a friend could use these to play a turn-based tabletop version of Rocket League. It’s unknown if these will reach our shores, but the first dozen cars are scheduled to launch sometime in mid 2017. Here’s a gif of the adorable little things in action:
