A Castlevania animated TV show is in the works, Netflix has announced, with Adventure Time producer Kevin Kolde and Dredd producer Adi Shankar attached to the project. This is presumably the same series that Shankar talked about on Facebook last year, describing it as “super violent” and “dark, satirical”, and claiming that “and after a decade of propaganda it will flip the vampire sub-genre on its head”.
Shankar subsequently confirmed with IGN that the show is based on the 1989 NES game Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, a prequel to the original Castlevania featuring Trevor Belmont on a mission to kill the bloodsucker and his minions in the 1400s.
“This is very much Castlevania done in the vein of Game of Thrones,” he explained, adding that it’s going to be “going to be R-rated as fuck”.
The first season is expected to launch in 2017, and a second season sometime next year.
