Rain World gets a release date, new trailer explores the fate of a slugcat

Last year Dane came across a quirky, ultra stylish platformer called Rain World. The game centres around a slugcat hybrid thing trying to survive in an unforgiving world, and it genuinely looks fantastic.

Rain World has been in development ever since its Kickstarter campaign blew past its original $50,000 goal in 2014, and according to a new trailer uploaded by publisher Adult Swim Games, it’ll be out later this month.

Here’s the game’s Steam description: “You are a slugcat. The world around you is full of danger, and you must face it – alone. Separated from your family in a devastating flood, you must hunt for food and shelter between terrifying torrential downpours that threaten to drown all life. Climb through the ruins of an ancient civilization, evade the jaws of vicious predators, and discover new lands teeming with strange creatures and buried mysteries. Find your family before death finds you!”

The game will also feature things like an “ever-changing ecosystem of predators and prey,” a “vast world of over 1600 rooms, spanning 12 diverse regions,” and procedurally generated animations. Hyped.

It looks amazing, doesn’t it? It does.

Rain World will pour onto PC and PS4 on 28 March.
