Star Trek: Discovery’s first trailer boldly goes where no other Star Trek show has gone before

… Because it’s obviously got a much bigger budget than any other Star Trek show. You can’t even see the walls wobbling on the bridge. Like the recent reboot films, Star Trek: Discovery is set about a decade before the events of the original 1960s TV series, and features the crew of the USS Discovery and its ongoing mission to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilisations, and inevitably get into trouble with them.

Writer and producer Bryan Fuller has previously revealed that the new show is about “an incident and an event in Star Trek history that’s been talked about but never been explored”, but he wouldn’t elaborate at the time. There’s definitely some sort of… something going on between the Federation and the Klingons in this trailer, though. I bet nobody expected that.

Star Trek: Discovery is the first new Star Trek TV series since Star Trek: Enterprise concluded in 2005. The show debuts sometime later this year with a 15-episode season, and stars The Walking Dead‘s Sonequa Martin-Green as First Officer Michael Burnham. I double-checked that. It’s Michael.
