Since his Alien 5 project got shut down (FDJGOKDSF,LASDFJKL), South African ex-pat director Neill Blomkamp has apparently been busy making – you’ll never guess it, oh, you guessed it – more sci-fi movies as part of a new venture to test some “experimental” stuff on audiences, with a debut on Steam coming soon. Get haaiped.
Back in April, Blomkamp proposed his audacious new initiative on social media.
If I sold experimental short films on @steam_games as tests for potential full feature films, would people watch them?

Steam already hosts a number of indie movies and documentaries, and Blomkamp’s own resume includes several proof-of-concept short films that subsequently went into feature film production – Alive in Joburg, for example, became District 9. So this is definitely a thing.
Oats Studios has now dropped its first trailer, and it’s more or less exactly what you’d expect – the genre-mandatory bleak future featuring an alien occupation of Earth, explosions, and… is that Sigourney Weaver? It’s totally Sigourney Weaver. I’d watch that.
