Sony’s PlayStation 3 console is officially discontinued worldwide as of today, 30 May 2017. While the console saw its last shipments to the United States and Europe in October 2016, Sony continued to sell the console in Japan and surrounds while its last remaining warehouse stock sold out. According to Inside-Games Japan, a single line, “Shipment complete”, was added to the PS3 CECH-4300C product page recently to indicate that Sony’s shipments of the console had ceased. That’s not to say that it’s obsolete though – hook up your PS3 to the net, and you’ll be able to stay updated online with system updates, and you can still purchase and download games from the PlayStation store. Multiplayer on the PS3 is also still free, so there’s that.
