Horizon Lunar Colony is Overwatch’s next map, features low gravity, other things

Earlier this week when Blizzard teased more Overwatch content, I was pretty sure it’d be another cool animated short. Well, I was wrong, and I’m super happy about it. Turns out the tease was actually for a brand new assault map called Horizon Lunar Colony, and in case the whole “lunar” part didn’t tip you off, it’s set in spaaaaaaace. Or to be more exact, a research station based on the moon. It’s also where our favourite genetically-modified gorilla grew up, and features a sweet low gravity section. Check it out below.

“Built as a first step towards humanity’s renewed exploration of space, the colony’s goal was to examine the effects of prolonged extraterrestrial habitation – on human and ape alike,” explains the description. “The scientists’ research proved incredibly promising…until, suddenly, all contact and communications with the base were lost.”

“Now, many years later, attacking and defending teams must return to the moon and battle for control of the colony’s facilities, all while they discover clues as to the fate of its previous inhabitants.”

Accompanying the preview trailer for the map is another developer update video that features designer Jeff Kaplan walking us through some of the map’s most interesting aspects.

The new map should already be live on the game’s PTR (public test region), along with a patch that, among other things, tests some major changes to McCree, Reaper, and Roadhog. Full patch notes here.

In other Overwatch news, competitive play season 5 is live, and it offers some cool rewards which you can check out here.
