Save the world from giant orcs in Extinction

Sometimes it’s blatantly easy to understand the creation of a game. Case in point, Extinction, a newly announced title that looks like it was born from a fevered mashup of Attack on Titan, Warcraft, and Prince of Persia. A short CGI trailer has been released to set the stage for the game, while also dropping hints at how it might play.

According to the dramatic voice-over, the world of Extinction is screwed. Monsters are invading, giant orcs with regenerating limbs are stomping all the tulips, and humanity is on the brink of being wiped out entirely to the last man, woman, and child. The only person who can save them is Avil, a sword-wielding, parkour-using badass with a fancy little cape.

The developers have promised a proper gameplay reveal at E3 2017, but we can draw a lot of conclusions from the announcement trailer. Extinction looks to be a hack ‘n slash action game, featuring combat against small and colossal foes. Avil can traverse the city at a blisteringly fast rate by wall-running, scaling the sides of buildings, or using his whip as a grappling hook. And much like Attack on Titan, the big enemies can only be killed by targeting a specific part of their body. According to the official website, the game will also feature side missions, a skill tree, and fully destructible environments.

Extinction is set to launch for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, sometime in early 2018. The team behind this game is Iron Galaxy Studios, who are better known for working on Killer Instinct Season 2 and 3.
