Oh hey, Neill Blomkamp’s first short movie is out now

So, remember that time Neill Blomkamp announced that he was going to make a series of short “experimental” films and publish them on Steam? The first one is out, and it’s more or less exactly what you’d expect from the same guy who did District 9 –  it’s got aliens, it’s got people enslaved by the aliens, and it’s got the inevitably volatile drama that happens when aliens enslave people.

This provocative debut from Blomkamp’s Oats Studios is called Rakka, and features Sigourney Weaver as the commander of a rebel resistance somewhere in Texas. It’s a bit gruesome in some parts, so probably NSFW.

Although the movie is free to stream, the team has also made a number of its assets available – including concept art and 3D models – for a super cheap R55 on Steam. Presumably this cash will help fund the production of future content, so you’re doing your own part for the rebel resistance. Kind of.
