About a year ago, Tarryn stumbled upon a new project by This War of Mine developer 11 Bit Studios called Frostpunk, and it looked really interesting. It looked even more interesting, and a whole lot darker in another cinematic trailer released earlier this year.
Other than knowing that the game will be a city builder with a number of twists – the biggest one being that people are definitely going to die and it’ll be all your fault – we haven’t really seen much of what Frostpunk will actually look like. Until now! The developer has finally uploaded a number of screenshots showing off some gameplay, and it looks utterly fascinating.
“In an ultimately frozen world, people develop steam-powered technology to oppose the overwhelming cold,” explains the game’s official description. “The city ruler has to manage both the inhabitants and the infrastructure the citizens live in. Leader’s tactical skills face challenges, frequently questioning morality and the basic foundation of what we consider an organized society. Here optimization and resource management often clash with empathy and thoughtful decision-making. While city and society management consume most of the ruler’s time, at some point exploration of outside world is necessary to understand its history and present state.”
Here’s what some of that looks like.
Frostpunk is expected to launch later this year on PC.
